We were founded in Fall 2022 by three students and were officially recognized by USF in just two months. Since then, we have registered over 280 members from a range of ability: novice runners who have never run a day in their life...to seasoned competitors, with some of our top runners propositioned to compete at the USF D1 Team. A large subset of our members have come to practice, having never run before, and we provide a safe space for them to learn basics and build foundational running skills. In May 2023, Running Club won the Emerging Student Organization of the Year Award!
We hosted our first official school-wide event in February 2024, a 2.5 mile Fun-Run through Golden Gate Park. This event was entirely self-funded, raising over $2000 in one month with the help of our community sponsors. We had over 200 registered runners and 103 participants on race day, despite the heavy rain during the event! In May 2024, our event was awarded the Event of the Year Award!
In Fall 2024, Running Club became Club Running, as we officially became a competitive sports club with Koret Health and Recreation Center on campus. Simultaneously, we were inducted into the Pacific Division of the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association (NIRCA). Our first year of competition has been nothing but exciting, competing at the SF State Invitational alongside D1-D3 collegiate teams for our first ever race as a team, followed up by a travel race to NIRCA Regionals, competing against running clubs across the West coast. We finished off the year strong by hosting our 2nd Fun Run, making it now an annual and our most looked-forward-to event by both members and the USF community. As our first year as a competative club sport concluded, we were recognized with the 2025 Rising Club of the Year Award!
Club Running aims to teach fundamental skills to newer runners and to help guide experienced runners to breaking their personal records, all while stressing the importance of recovery and balance. We are a club for walkers, joggers, and racers alike. Doing so, Club Running strives to be a space for all athletes to build their self-confidence and find a safe, welcoming community centered around a healthy lifestyle.
