On April 13th, Club Running hosted our 2nd Annual Fun Run through Golden Gate Park! Last year, we hosted the Inagural Fun Run as Running Club, a social club through the Department of Student Leadership and Engagement. This year, we have officially transitioned to Club Running, a competitive club sport through Koret Health and Recreation Center. It's been a very exciting year for us, and we finished it off by hosting the take-2 of our most popular event, with more prizes, better weather, and more people!
While last year's race was entirely self-funded, this year we had financial support from Koret, along with the generous support from our community sponsors: Sports Basement, A Runner's Mind, and Trader Joe's. This allowed us to make the event as accessible to students as possible and we are proud to provide a welcoming space for everyone. The turnout was overwhelming, we had 180 registered racers and 115 participants on race day; it was a wonderful way to finish off the school year!
Runners were encouraged to walk, jog, or run the 2.5 mile race that led along JFK Promenade, and was open to undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and family/friends of USF students. There were official racing bibs, post-race refreshments, a Top-3 winner's ceremony, and raffle with 13 chances to win a running fanny pack, running socks, and a variety of $20-$40 gift cars! A huge congratulations to our top 3 racers (in order), Juan Arredondo, Logan Thorenson, Ty Gausman, along with the 10 other winners of our raffle.
